Tiger Woods Takes to Web to Apologize for ‘Transgressions’

Tiger Woods has had little to say publicly since his car accident sparked a media frenzy over his personal life, but he used his Web site Wednesday to apologize for unspecified “transgressions.”

“I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart,” he wrote. “I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.”

Mr. Woods, who was fined for the car crash but won’t face any criminal charges, added that he’s been “dismayed” by what he called tabloid scrutiny of him and his wife, Elin Nordegren.

“For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect,” he wrote. “The virtue of privacy is one that must be protected in matters that are intimate and within one’s own family. Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn’t have to mean public confessions.”

Supportive fans quickly reacted to his post. “Tiger, God Bless you and your family. Life is hard. Whatever your family is dealing with belongs within the walls of your home. It is no one else’s concern. This too shall pass. Take care,” a commenter, sunshine66, wrote. “Amen! Enough said! Let the rest of the world draw their own conclusions. It’s none of their business. My best wishes on any healing your family may need,” added Ryandrew.

Other commenters, however, wondered why his statement arrived six days after the accident. “Why didn’t you just do this in the first place?” miltrade asked. “We’d already be talking about what Paris Hilton is up to by now.”

Case: As we are learning from the transgressions of others such as David Letterman, no one is perfect. Men will cheat and women will cheat. Cheating, even for celebrities, should be a private matter between the family and spouses. The public doesn’t need to know what goes on in the private lives of celebrities. If this incident had been done by the average Joe, it would not be headline news. Tiger isn’t perfect and now he knows what is done in the dark will come to light. He and the rest of us should live our liveas as if we’re being watched because in most cases, we are being watched.

TMZ is now reporting that Tiger’s wife, Elin, is the source of his facial injuries (and not the car crash) and that the two were arguing over Woods’ alleged affair with Rachel Uchitel.
